NILC Immigrant Justice fund recognized the need to build political power for immigrant families by demonstrating to candidates and campaigns that they can win with persuadable voters by articulating an inclusive, pro-immigrant vision for America, whether they’re running for President, Congress, or state office.

That’s why we launched a campaign to reach persuadable voters in key battleground states that would help determine the winner of the presidential election with pro-immigrant messages.

To do that we conducted groundbreaking public opinion research in battleground states showing how to talk about immigrants with persuadable voters in order to improve candidates’ favorability.

We then used research-based messaging to target 130,000 Independent women and persuadable Latinx voters with digital ads in Wisconsin, Arizona and North Carolina.

NILC IJF’s 2020 campaign:

  • Delivered more than 11.3 million digital ads with pro-immigrant messages boosting the Biden-Harris ticket with persuadable voters in Wisconsin, Arizona and North Carolina.

  • Contacted 99,811 persuadable voters in Wisconsin, Arizona and North Carolina via volunteer peer-to-peer texting.

  • Helped flip Wisconsin and Arizona, delivering 21 electoral votes to Joe Biden and helping him become the next President of the United States.

In 2020, we demonstrated that campaigns can embrace a pro-immigrant vision for America, and win by doing so. We have proven a pro-immigrant political narrative is necessary and valuable. This represents the beginning of that effort and we know that others will follow our lead.

Voters will support leaders who include immigrants in building a better future for all of us, no matter where we were born.
